HO HO HO!

WHO THE LET THE $#@!ing SANTAS OUT?

SantaCon New York City 2002 is happening Saturday, December 14th and continuing until the wee hours of Sunday, December 15 (when not a creature is stirring, except all the Santas)!

WHAT IS SANTACON?

It's a not-for-profit, nonpolitical, non-religious demented Santa Clause convention. We do it for no reason. SantaCon happens in major cities all over the world. NYC SantaCon 1998 was a blissful three-day affair with more than 100 Santas flying in from all over the country as NYC hosted the national event. SantaCon 1999 was extremely successful with one longer day and approximately 80 dirty Clauses. SantaCon 2001 was a single day condensed non-stop blowout with over 150 red suits of naughtiness!

2002 promises to be choc-full of bars, parties, subway rides, shock appeal, dirty
xxx-mas carols, jingle balls, questionable acts, elf insubordination, and non-stop ho-ho-hos! Plenty of shoppers to carol, tourists to titillate, cheap drinks and Christmas spirits!

This year, Santas will visit some of the traditional Santa haunts in Manhattan and other New York boroughs, in addition to a couple of new surprises! Fun, merriment, and the spirit of the holiday season awaits all participating Santas, in addition to those that we will meet on our annual holiday rampage.

Location information will NOT be posted to this site.

What you need: Cheap Santa Suit (or homemade variation), comfortable shoes, and an unlimited 24 hour Metro card. Cheap wrapped "presents" are optional. (Three categories suggested: Naughty, Nice, and Children; these need to be easily distinguishable by wrappings.)

This event is free and open to all Santas, but we will have refreshment (and food) stops throughout the day, so please come prepared for this. SantaCon New York City 2002 will end at a late-night party where a small admission fee might be charged.

Naughty Santas Subvert Christmas Spirit by Janelle Brown, Wired 1997 .And as professor Stephen Nissenbaum, author of the book The Battle for Christmas, points out, the Cheap Suit Santas are actually carrying on a very long tradition of prankster Santas. The domestic, jovial Santa popularized by The Night Before Christmas and a million toy commercials was widely rivaled in the 1800s by raucous, "counter-versions" of Santa Claus that went around playing tricks. One such version was the Belsnickle's (in German, "Santa as a beast"),..." click here for more
